Moby Dick
Herman Melville was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet of the American Renaissance period. Born on August 1, 1819, in New York City, he gained fame for his novels, particularly 'Moby Dick', which was published in 1851. Despite initial mixed reviews, Melville's work has since been recognized for its complex narrative and innovative use of symbolism. Throughout his life, he faced personal and financial hardships, and after his death on September 28, 1891, his literary contributions were largely overlooked until a resurgence of interest in the 20th century, leading to his establishment as a major figure in American literature.
